SUMMARY:Peawanuck’s Annual 2026 Wolf Run for Diabetes Awareness
DESCRIPTION:PEAWANUCK\, ON – On Sunday\, August 16th\, 2026\, community members gathered at Canoe Lake for the 16th Annual Wolf Run for Diabetes Awareness\, organized by volunteer event coordinator Pam Chookomoolin\, the annual Wolf Run was established to help educate community members about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and to raise awareness about diabetes. \nIn the adult triathlon\, six-time defending champion Marven Hunter won in the men’s 18+ category\, while Sara-Jane Hunter earned first place in the women’s 18+ division. In the 40+ category\, Johnny Gull was the men’s champion and Marianne Chookomolin took first place in the women’s division. \nIn the youth biathlon\, with Elijah Chookomolin winning the male teen category and Lovelia Kataquapit winning the female category. \nFor the children’s biathlon\, Mikael Chookomolin and Brooke Chookomolin emerged as champions in their divisions\, helping make this year’s event another successful celebration of athletic achievement and community participation. \nOver the years\, the event has become one of Peawanuck’s yearly anticipated community gatherings\, attracting runners or walkers and supporters who like to see a healthy lifestyle being encouraged\, especially since food security is harder for those living in isolated communities. To celebrate and reward the participants and community members\, the Wolf Run is traditionally concluded with a community cookout\, all are welcome.
